The Excel STDEVA function estimates the standard deviation based on a sample of a population, including logical values and text. Standard deviation is a measure of how widely values are dispersed from the mean. ## Usage Notes

STDEVA returns the standard deviation from data that is representative of a sample of a population. Unlike the STDEV function, STDEVA accounts for logical and text values.TEXT evaluates as 0 (zero), TRUE evaluates as 1, and FALSE evaluates as 0 (zero).

Standard deviation is used to calculate the variance in a set of numbers compared to the average, or mean, of the numbers. STDEVA is intended to estimate the standard deviation for a sample of the entire population. Use the STDEVPA function to find the standard deviation of an entire population.

Standard deviation is calculated using the "n - 1" method.

STDEVA includes text and logical values. To ignore text and logical values, use the STDEV or STDEV.S function.
