INT

Using the Excel INT Function

Summary

Excel's INT function is used to round a number down to the nearest integer. The INT function will always round down. This means that a positive number will become smaller and negative numbers will become more negative. For example, INT(5.5) returns 5 and INT(-5.5) returns -6.

Syntax

=INT (number)

Syntax Breakdown

number
The number argument is required and is the number that you would like to round down.

Usage Notes

INT is useful when it is required to find the integer portion of a decimal number. The function will always round down so it is important that this is acceptable for your purposes. If you would like to only find the integer portion this can be accomplished using the TRUNC function that does not round the number.
