Using the Excel COUNTBLANK Function

The Excel COUNTBLANK function returns a count of blank cells in a range, including formulas that return empty text. The function does not count cells that contain text, numbers, dates, or error values.

Usage Notes

COUNTBLANK counts the number of blank cells in a specified range. Blank should be understood as empty. Therefore, cells containing text, numbers, dates, zero values, or error values are ignored. Cells that contain a formula that returns empty text ("") will be included.
