SummaryThe Excel COMBIN function returns the number of combinations for a given number of items. The function can be used to determine the total possible number of groups for a given number of items. For example, COMBIN could be used to determine how many five person teams could be formed from a pool of 10 candidates.

Required. Number of items in each combination.
Usage NotesCOMBIN returns the number of combinations, in any order, for a given number of items. Numeric arguments with decimals are truncated to integers.
Combinations are a set, or subset, of items where the order is not significant. This varies from permutations where the order is significant. If the order is important, use the PERMUT function.
The COMBIN function will return the #VALUE! error if either argument is non-numeric.
The function returns the #NUM! error if number < 0, number_chosen < 0, or number < number_chosen.
