Using the Excel BITOR Function

Summary

The Excel BITOR function returns a decimal number of the bitwise OR of two numbers. The function performs a logical OR operation on each corresponding bit in the binary representation of the number and the resulting number is returned.

Syntax

Syntax Breakdown

Number 1
Required. Must be a decimal and >= to 0 (zero).

Number 2
Required. Must be a decimal and >= to 0 (zero).

Usage Notes

BITOR returns a decimal version of the bitwise OR of two numbers. The value of each bit position is counted only if both parameter's bits at that position are 1.

BITOR Errors
The function produces errors under the following scenarios:

1) The #VALUE! error if either argument is non-numeric

2) The #NUM! error if either argument is greater than (2^48) - 1
